Track AI: A Tool to Detect Vision Problems in Children

Artificial intelligence (AI) is all around you, from the TV in your living room to your mobile phone, home automation system and more. Chinese telecommunications company Huawei is currently developing an AI technology for detecting vision problems in children.

In today’s post, your local vision therapy provider, Park Slope Eye, talks about this new AI technology.

Using AI for Good

Huawei collaborated with ISS Aragon and Devices for Integral Vision Examination (DIVE) Medical for the creation of the AI device. According to the company, the Track AI initiative is a user-friendly, portable and affordable too to determine vision problems in children as young as six months.

Various aspects of visual function are put to test using the DIVE software in the Huawei Matebook E. The technology observes a child’s eye movement patterns. This data is then transmitted to a Huawei P30 smartphone through an algorithm to detect possible signs of vision issues.

Peter Gauden, a Huawei technology expert, stated that Track AI is part of the company’s dedication to utilizing AI for good. “Our goal is for this project to make it possible for parents and doctors in all corners of the world to detect visual impairments in a faster, easier, more efficient way through AI technology,” said Gauden.

It’s always recommended to consult your eye doctor for accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. Contact Park Slope Eye for your pediatric and family eye care needs.

Warning Signs of Eye Problems in Children

Children older than three months should be able to follow an object with their eyes. Inward crossing or outward drifting of the eyes among children older than four months isn’t normal.

Also look out for signs like a white pigment in the pupil, pus in the eye, drooping eyelids, eye discomfort and quick eye fluttering. Eye specialists have tests that can determine the condition of your child’s vision if they can’t read yet.
